For the past few years, these 3-D denims have been my daily uniform. I found them at my parents house when we were clearing their house after my father passed away. I boght a jacket as well, but can’t find it. Levi launched the line called “RED” and “engineered denims” right around millennium. They utilize their own 3-D cut for trousers and jackets. The engineered line is a kind of a regular line sold at the levi stores and the RED is more for high end.
I bought them at a store called “Selvedge” on the mulberry street in NYC. Selvedge was a little store on Mulberry st. in NOLITA, and they would sell then-launched US made vintage line and these RED line. I would rather wear vintage denims than remake ones at the time, but I just loved the first RED line.
As far as I remember, this line was developed in Europe. The design source was clear, vintage denim.
This 3-D cut design of the trousers are from the leg twist of the vintage denims. FYI, right hand twills for vintage levi and left hand twills for vintage lee. They are made in real indigo denims and only got one back pocket. This comes from the infamous Nevada Jean Another pair comes from the denim trousers from the 30’s and 40’s. I remember they were saying that the 3-D cut was based on human engineering. To be honest, I am not sure how that helps provide comfort by wearing them. Even after more than 15 years, still kickin’it.
The selvedge, green line tells the fabric itself.
